Students will study Medieval History covering early Christianity to the Elizabethan period using the Biblioplan: Remember the Days curriculum. This course is a literature-based history class, and students will be required to read several historical novels over the summer and throughout the year. Students in the Middle class will have increased writing assignments. Students must be proficient readers/writers. Meets once per week and will require 1-2 hours of study/homework time.

Great Books History and Literature

Students will study Ancient History using Old Western Culture: The Greeks by Roman Roads Media. This course is a literature-based history class, and students will be required to spend several hours per week reading outside of class. Students will watch videos in class once per week and have in-class discussions. Compositions will be assigned once per quarter. Meets twice per week and will require 3-4 hours of study/homework time.

Elementary Writing 1 (IEW 1) (3rd - 5th)

This course covers the Institute for Excellence in Writing Student Writing Intensive Level A.  Students must be able to read and write proficiently and have an understanding of sentences and paragraphs.  Meets once per week and requires 1 hour of study/homework time.

A course for students who have had at least a year of IEW experience or are in the upper age range of the class and have had some writing and grammar instruction. Students will continue with the IEW Student Writing Intensive: Continuation Course A, while producing longer, more complex works.  Grammar will also be taught using Analytical Grammar. Meets once per week and requires 1-2 hours of study/homework time.

Composition and Grammar 3 (IEW 3) (5th - 7th)

A course for students who have had at least a year of IEW experience. Students will continue with IEW Continuation Course A. Grammar will also be taught using the second half of Analytical Grammar and Kilgallon Grammar for Middle School: A Sentence Composing Approach. Meets once per week and requires 1-2 hours of study/homework time.

Literature and Composition (7th - 9th)

Cost: $200

Students will learn literary analysis and advanced composition skills using the IEW curriculum: Teaching the Classics, The Jill Pike Syllabus, and Windows to the World. In addition to the student text, students will read several novels throughout the year. Summer reading is required for this class. Meets once per week and requires 1-2 hours of study/homework time.

Latin Primer A (3rd - 5th)

This course is a basic introduction into Latin vocabulary and grammar using Latin for Children Primer A. Students must be at least 8 years old and proficient at reading and writing. Meets once per week and will require 1 hour of study/homework time.

Latin 3 (5th - 7th)

This course continues further into Latin vocabulary and grammar using Cambridge Latin Unit 1. Meets once per week and will require 1-2 hours of study/homework time.

Pre AP Latin (5th - 7th)

**This class is held at Heritage Bible Church**

This course is designed for students who have completed at least 2-3 years of middle school Latin studies. Students will continue using the Henle 1 Latin text, as well as reading and translating Julius Caesar’s Gallic Wars. Students will begin to prepare for the AP Latin exam. Meets twice per week and will require 4-5 hours of study/homework per week.

Spanish 3 (6th - 9th)

Students will learn intermediate language constructs and vocabulary to include irregular verb conjugation, past and future tenses. Curriculum: Codigo 1. Meets twice per week, and will require 2 hours of study/homework time.

Elementary Spanish 2 (4th - 6th)

Students will learn more advanced verb tenses and grammar, along with increasing their vocabulary. Curriculum: Colega 2.  Meets twice per week, and will require 1-2 hours of study/homework time. Must be able to pass Spanish 1 end of year exam prior to enrollment.

Elementary Spanish (2nd - 4th)

Students will learn the basics of Spanish to include greetings, expressing likes, conjugating simple present tense verbs, and basic grammar constructs using Risas y Sonrisas. Students must be proficient at reading and writing. Meets twice per week, and will require 1 hour of study/homework time.

Elementary Science (3rd - 4th)

Using Building Foundations of Scientific Understanding Vol I and II and The Rainbow, students will learn the foundational concepts of Chemistry, Biology, Earth Science, and Physics. Students in this class must be proficient at reading and writing. Meets once per week and will require 1 hour of study/homework time. Please see the chart at the end of this document for a list of the specific concepts being taught.

Upper Elementary Science (4th - 6th)

Cost: $200

Students will get an in-depth look into key Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Earth Science concepts. Using Building Foundations of Scientific Understanding Vol I and II and The Rainbow, students will think scientifically and see how scientific concepts are interrelated. This class will cover the same topics as Elementary Science, but will require more reading and writing. See the note at the end of this document for a chart with the topics that will be covered in this class. Meets once per week and will require 1 hour of study/homework time.

Physical Science  (6th - 8th)

Students will study Physical Science from a Christian perspective using Novare Physical Science. In-class time will include labs and discussion. Students in this class are REQUIRED to participate in science fair. Meets once per week and will require 1-2 hours of study/homework time.

Physics (9th - 12th)

Mondays and Wednesdays 12:45-2:15 Instructor: Mrs. Janna Camperman

Cost: $390

This class is designed for Sophomore – Senior students on a regular science track or for accelerated freshman students who would like to have the option of a second, advanced Physics class during high school. Students will study Physics from a Christian perspective using Novare Accelerated Physics and Chemistry. Students should have a solid grasp of Algebra I concepts to enroll in the course. In-class time will include labs and discussion. Meets twice per week and will require 2-3 hours of study/homework time.

Students will learn basic programming skills as well as receive an introduction to engineering and engineering careers. Meets once per week.

Performing Arts (3rd - 9th)

This course is designed to help students develop singing, dancing and public speaking skills. This year’s selection is Treasure Island, and the final production will be held at the end of the semester. All students will be required to participate in the production, and parents will be asked to assist with costumes and set design.

Elementary Art (2nd – 4th)- 1st Semester/Upper Art (5th – 9th)- 2nd Semester

Students will learn about famous, classical artists while practicing basic/intermediate art techniques.

Taught from a Christian perspective, using the books, 50 Things Every Young Gentleman Should Know and 50 Things Every Young Lady Should Know, students will learn manners and social skills and why they are important. Students will have opportunities for practical application of the concepts, to include conversations with adults, table setting, table manners, and dance. The students will round out the course with a Cotillion dinner/dance event.

Upper Drama with the Bard (5th - 9th)

Cost: $85 plus $15 supply fee to cover the cost of props and sound.

Students will study and perform the Shakespeare play, Romeo and Juliet, working to sharpen public speaking skills and build confidence in the process. Students will perform abridged versions of the play in the original Shakespeare language.

Students in grades 3rd through 10th who have a break in between classes, and whose parents do not remain on campus, may enroll in a study hall period for periods 1-5. An adult will be present to monitor the study hall.  Students will be expected to work quietly.

Students in this class will memorize math facts, practice math skills with fun games and activities, and listen to math-based literature to reinforce the concepts being taught. This course is not meant to replace a home math curriculum, but rather, to reinforce the math concepts being learned at home. Children in this class must be able to read/write proficiently.
